Skills in Composition
1. a) Skills in composition
The rule of thirds - This image doesn't break the rule of thirds as the main focus of the frame isn't in the centre of it. The models in the image are the only focus in the image and they are taking up the whole width of the frame. This puts them as the main focus in the photo.
Balancing elements - This image is quite balanced as it goes with the rule of thirds, there is nothing in the middle dominating the whole frame, the two models Sam and Felicity are equally balanced in the frame. However, the top third of the frame is quite bare and has nothing really in it, this doe make the frame unbalanced, but it does put the main focus on Sam and Felicity which is what I wanted. Background - The background of this image is blurred and is shown in white. Whereas the models are in focus and are showing dark colours, contrasting with the white background high-lighting them in the frame.
Lighting - High-key lighting was use for this image as you can see the models' faces clearly and everything is outlined and clear. I used high-key lighting because I didn't want the photos from my shoot to seem dark or sinister, I wanted to produce a sense of glamour in these images and I think if I used low-key lighting, it would ruin the theme I was trying to portray.
b) Skills in controlling image exposure, focus and using lenses chosen from: EF85mm f/1.8 USM
ISO speed - 200
Aperture - f/2.2
Shutter speed - 1/125 seconds
c) Studio Lighting - I used a range of lights for our shoot and placed them all around the white background setting and models. There were a few lights that we set up that weren't working with where the models were standing in the shoot, so I turned them off because they created a shadow.

ISO speed - 200
Aperture - f/2.2
Shutter speed - 1/125 seconds
c) Studio Lighting - I used the same lighting throughout the whole shoot, however we did reposition individual lights for different images, because some of the lights were creating a shadow on the Sam and Felicity.
3. a) Skills of Composition
Rule of thirds - The rule of thirds does apply in this image, the models are not directly in the middle of the frame. They take up most of the frame which makes quite a balanced photo.
Balancing elements - The frame consists of mostly Sam and Felicity, this makes the image balanced because they are both on either side of the frame and both have the same presence in the photo. Leading lines - Felicity's arm is a leading lines in this image. As you look at the image, her arm leads you to her hand touching Sam's arm. This creates a a soft element to the image. Lighting - I used high-key lighting throughout the whole photo shoot. I think the lighting in this image works well because there is a slight shadow of Sam's face which puts the main focus on Felicity, she has no shadow on her face and her lips are well shown in the image and are highlighted well in contrast with the white background.
Also as you can see most of Felicity's face that puts her as the main focus of the frame, whereas you can only see half of Sam's face, so he doesn't have as bigger presence as Felicity does in this image.

4) a) Skills of Composition:
Rule of thirds: This image goes with the rule of thirds. I have said this because the main focus of the image, Felicity, isn't centred in the middle of the frame. This adds balance and interest to the frame. Felicity is placed just slightly to the right of the frame. The left side of the frame hasn't really got anything in it, I think this creates more focus of Felicity which will highlight her and her outfit more and also the lipstick, the product I am aiming to advertise.
Balancing elements: Because Felicity is not centred in the middle of the frame, a balance to the image would be expected. However, because there is nothing else other than Felicity shown in the frame, it makes for quite a unbalanced image because she is the only element of the frame that is interesting and because she is place on the right hand side of the frame, the left side hasn't got any elements to it, which makes for an unbalanced image. But because of this more focus is put on Felicity in the frame which is what I wanted so I am happy with this image. Symmetry and patterns: This image isn't very symmetrical because there is only one element of the frame and she is centred on the right side. This breaks the symmetry/pattern of the frame and introduces tensions and a focal point to the scene.

5) a) Skills in composition:
Rule of thirds: This image does not break the rule of thirds. Felicity is based on the right side of the frame so the main focus of the image is not centred in the middle of the frame, which would break the rule of thirds. Not breaking the rule of thirds is supposed to create balance and interest to an image. Balancing elements: However, I feel that because I am sticking to the rule of thirds for this image it is creating a rather unbalanced image because the main focus of the frame, Felicity, is on the right side of it, but I do think that it makes the image interesting because it isn't and ordinary image where the main focus of the frame is centred in the middle, Felicity is placed on the right side of the image which I think puts the main focus on her and on the lipstick which is what I was trying to achieve from these images from my photo shoot. Because balancing elements of an image normally includes another object/subject in the frame of lesser importance just to fill the frame, however I don't feel that this image needs that because the main focus is Felicity which is what I was aiming for because I would like the lipstick to be highlighted in my images.
Background: The background for this image I used a white background sheet. I used a white background because I thought that it would highlight Felicity more with the lipstick on because the red and black would stand out against the white. However, during the editing process I feel that I should edit in a new white background that it more consistent because the background in this image is quite lumpy and you can see that I have used a sheet so my shoot.
